Stevington Windmill at sunset on Tuesday, 7 february 2012

Just down the road from us is the only complete windmill left in the UK. Apparently still in use and regularly turned, it's a delightful part of the local country walk we take the dog to.

Veliko Tarnovo from the fortress on Tuesday, 4 october 2011

Walking back to Veliko through the fortress with Roman ruins on the right hand side. The Soviets began carefully restoring Tsarevets and it's ongoing now, although some critics insist that the remains should be left intact and unaltered, I think it's much more interesting to see things as they once were.

Long way down... on Monday, 19 september 2011

On a short contract in London last year, I worked in this rather impressive building with a central atrium. Not being a great fan of heights, I just suck the camera over the railing and pressed the button without much forethought, but with a nice result giving the impression of a long drop down. We weren't even on the top floor!

Foggy sunrise on the A600, Shefford, Bedfordshire on Friday, 28 october 2011

I drive past this field on the way to work every morning and have been trying to wait until the sheep have been at the right end of the field for a misty morning shot.
The sheep have gone now, so I thought I'd stop anyway and take a nice shot of the sun burning off the morning mist.
Buzludzha monument (UFO building) landscape on Wednesday, 5 october 2011

Looking down past the building into the Balkan Mountains there is a wind farm. Not really a contrast of "old and new" as the monument was only unveiled in 1981, but it certainly felt that way.
In the walls within the towering concrete monument lays a time capsule placed by Todor Zhivkov with messages for the future, but like everything soviet in Bulgaria, it seems to represent something they want to forget.

Over looking a view of Sunny Beach sits a surprisingly good condition Trabant, one of the most common cars in communist Bulgaria.

Buzludzha monument (UFO building) on Wednesday, 5 october 2011
/ My Blog / Best Served Cold /
Perched on top of Mount Buzludzha stands a monument and building designed by Gueorguy Stoilov which looks remarkably like a UFO.
The torches were built to represent the relationship between the two countries Bulgaria and the USSR, one torch is slightly bigger than the other one, so you can guess which country that represented.
