On our first day we took a walk through some great parks and gardens in the sunshine, then stumbled upon the disintegrating 1300 Years Monument.
Surrounded by fences with open gaps lay this monstrosity, which is half falling down and half being pulled down.
It was built in 1981 to celebrate the anniversary of the creation of the First Bulgarian Empire. Apparently, nobody seems to want to take responsibility for the structure, and it’s pretty damned ugly, so it’ll probably get knocked down soon enough.
