After arriving in Varna, we wandered aimlessly around the pedestrian city centre looking for a place to stay and couldn’t miss this cold war monstrosity! Made entirely of unpainted, ugly concrete, the Cherno More hotel (or Hotel Black Sea) stands proudly overlooking the entire city. We had little choice but to try it out and stayed there in a room much like a prison cell.
It is one of the tallest buildings in the Balkans I couldn’t find out much about it’s history, but what I can tell you is the view from the top was simply breathtaking. We even had a quick go in the Casino, but neither of us understood the strange machines and our brief attempt at the roulette wheel swallowed up our entire gambling budget.
