It was really difficult to find a great viewpoint of the Rila Monastery, but we climbed up some stairs and looked over the top of the roof’s towards the mountain.
Founded by Ivan of Rila in the 10th Century, it was actually built by Ivan’s students whilst he lived in a cave with no possessions a few miles away.
It’s probably one of Bulgaria’s finest tourist attraction, and awe inspiring to wander around.
I wouldn’t eat in the restaurant over the road though…
